The policy of equal pay for equal work was violated during the period of Left Front Government. The same policy is being maintained during the period of the new government.
Sources said that the Traffic Volunteers of Kailashahar expressed strong resentment due to discrimination of payment for the same post at Dharmanagar and Kailashahar.
Traffic volunteers were appointed to help Traffic Police for controlling vehicles on the road. They have to work under the open sky within heat of sunlight, rain and storm. Altogether 14 male and female volunteers of Kailashahar get Rs. 3000 as salary in every month whereas the volunteers of Dharmanagar used to get Rs. 3300 per month from very beginning. The salary of volunteers at Dharmanagar increased to Rs. 6000 per month from August this year. Naturally the volunteers of Kailashahar expressed their resentment. They took the matter from local BJP leader to Janatar Durbar of Chief Minister. But they failed get anything except verbal assurance.
Sources said that Kailashahar Municipal Council appointed the volunteers without interview. They get salary in slip as their post is temporary. They have to do their duty 8 hours daily. There is no traffic post to get shed in sunlight.
They raised question why their salary would not be hiked if Dharmanagar Municipal Council could raise the volunteer’s salary up to Rs. 6000 per month. They expected that the new government would take positive role to fulfill their demand. The salary of the volunteers is less than the total wages of labourers in a month. So they demanded to eliminate the discrimination of salary.
