The international motor rally ‘Drive for Peace’, flagged off February 4 last, set to travel through the places which has historical association with Mahatma Gandhi arrived state today.
The first of its kind rally tended to impart the values preached by Gandhi himself was given a rousing welcome by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Santana Chakma at Agartala integrated check-post. As a spin off, the rally is also emphasizing on the road safety concerns.
Speaking to the media persons at the Check Post premises, Arun Bhatia of Kalinga sports club said, the rally is designed to touch all the major places where Mahatma Gandhi dwelt during his professional life. The 23 day long rally is also promoting it’s another agenda—awareness on road safety concerns, he added.
Every year, an alarming number of street mishaps took place. We see young blood being wasted in the roads. And as our motto is “Drive for Peace”—peace should be brought in the roads also which are now under the scanner of accidental violence, he added.
When asked about the next destination, Bhatia replied, the rally will reach Silchar tomorrow and will move towards Imphal. From Imphal the rally will reach at its end point—Yangon, Mayanmar.
Minister Santana Chakma, on the occasion, said, such moves should be encouraged more and more. Such sort of spirited efforts will help the nation to fetch national integrity, she claimed.
Notably, the rally reached Dhaka on February 17 last. The rally will complete altogether 7,250 kilometer journey from Delhi to Yangon with halts in 23 major locations.
