In order to promote Tripura “tea” to the international arena Tripura Tea Development Corporation has undertaken several initiative getting the state and central government as complicit authority, said TTDC Charman Santosh Saha today while speaking at a news conference here in Agartala Press Club.
Laying emphasis on the initiatives undertaken since he assumed the office, he said, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had already wrote to Union Minister of Industry and Commerce Suresh Prabhu to approach neighbouring Bangladesh for proposing a MOU that could enable the small scale cultivators to grow tea in the vast no man’s land alongside the fencing.
The letter also includes, he added, a proposal was also sent to the concerned ministry to take Bangladesh in acquiescence for promoting state’s tea brands in Bangldesh based at Shrimandal auction center, 5 kilometers from Kailasahar which will trim down the transpiration cost for tea growers and sellers.
Moreover, a delegation of Chamber of Commerce which recently visited Bangladesh during a trade exhibition comprising Rudra Chatterjee of Tripura also appealed the Prime Minister Hasina to import their required tea consumption from Tripura as it would be benefitting bilaterally, he informed. Rudra Chatterjee also sought Bangladesh government’s intervention to reduce the export duty (80%) imposed here to avoid the losses, he held.
Meanwhile, speaking on the branding and newly obtained packaging procedure he informed, TTDC has finalized a logo for Tripura tea which will be unleashed publicly within 15 to 20 day, getting approval from TBI (Tea Board of India), moreover, envoy stalls are going to positioned in the International trade fair at Delhi starting from tomorrow and also at 6th North East Festival at Agartala.
