Tripura today started with a winning note in the ongoing National Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 cricket tournament. At Jharkhand cricket association stadium Tripura defeated Assam by 8 runs in their opening match. Batting first Tripura made 162/5 while in reply Assam posted 158/8 as they fell short by 8 runs.
Combined efforts from batsmen and bowlers led Tripura to this close win in the end. Professional cricketers Yashpal Singh, Smit Patel played well with the bat while with the ball Ajoy Sarkar rattled the top order of Assam with some outstanding speed bowling and in the end Tripura won the match by 8 runs. Tripura will play their second match against Jharkhand on January 10.
In the morning today Assam won the toss and elected to bowl first. Tripura made a solid start as the opening pair of Udiyan Bose and Smit Patel added 27. Udiyan went out after scoring 22 from 16 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. Smit Patel went out after scoring 42 from 30 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. Yashpal Singh made 56 from 45 balls with 6 fours while Nirupam Sen Choudhury made 20 runs.
From 20 overs Tripura made 162 for the loss of 5 wickets. Abu Nechim picked up 3 wickets. In reply Assam lost wickets at regular intervals and from 20 overs they made 154/8. Amit Sinha made 64 while Shibsankar Roy made 46. Among the bowlers Ajoy Sarkar picked up 3 wickets while Gurinder Singh and Manisankar Murasingh picked up 1 wicket each. Tripura won the match by 8 runs.
