CM Biplab Kumar Deb in presence of MLA Ratan Chakraborty inaugurated the 7 day long traditional Kharchi festival in fourteen Goddess temples at Khayerpur.
MLA Ratan Chakraborty and others remained present in the inaugural function. However, along with the 7 days long festival the fair also began from today. Devotees have already started gathering at the temple since morning to offer prayer to the god.
Inaugurating the festival, CM Biplab Kumar Deb wished everyone the occasion of traditional Kharchi and further stated that Khrachi is a festival which connects people despite of caste, tribe and religion. Meanwhile the security is also tightened across temple to avoid any untoward incident.
Kharchi Puja is one of the most important festivals of Tripura. Celebrated in the month of July, Kharchi Puja is a weeklong festival during which 14 goddess are worshipped. Kharchi is derived from ‘khya’ which means ‘earth’ and hence, the festival is also known as the worship of earth. The main celebration takes place at the premises of the Chaturdasha Devta temple in the capital city Agartala.
