Rickshaw fallout: CM orders suspension of Traffic Inspector

AGARTALA:

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has on Thursday ordered suspension of Traffic Inspector Sukanta Biswas for allegedly pulling out motors from several rickshaws in the city without consulting the government.

In the wee hours of Thursday Inspector Sukanta Biswas in order to stop the motor-fitted rickshaws plying on the road reportedly pulled out some of the motors from the rickshaws followed by a recent High Court order.

Speaking to the media persons at civil secretariat, the Chief Minister strongly condemned the act of Sukanta and said, the state government had given no such instruction.

“The state government welcomes the order passed by the High Court of Tripura. But, the Traffic Inspector should have discussed the matter before taking such a step,” he said.

He also kept on saying, the government knows what to do and what not; we already started discussions to deal with the prevailing situation but what he did is ‘not at all admissible’.

The Chief Minister, however, smelled conspiracy behind today’s agitation by the rickshaw pullers in various parts of the city.

He said, “The entire episode was fallout of a well-orchestrated conspiracy. And, the people who are responsible for that will face punishment accordingly.”

Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who also attended the news conference, quoted the court directions and said that the court had given enough time to take a well sketched call on the issue. “The Judiciary is a pillar of the democracy and the state government will act according to the court’s orders” he concluded.
