District and Session Judge of Khowai Court Goutam Sarkar convicted TSR jawan Samarjit Das in allegation of rape on a minor girl and the court ordered the accused for seven years jail and fined Rs. 10,000. According to the order the term of jail may increase 6 months in case of nonpayment of fined amount.
Sources said that TSR jawan Samarjit Das raped a minor girl repeatedly for some days at a place near Gouranga tilla School when he came to house on leave on July 18 in 2010. A kangaroo court of the village settled the case by imposing fine Rs. 3 lakh on rapist and a fraction of the amount was exchanged.
Meanwhile a case filed against the accused at Kalyanpur Police Station on behalf of the girl. During investigation by SI Ranjit Debbarma the case was handed over to CID. After completion of investigation CID Inspector Ashoke Kumar Pal filed a charge sheet in the court under section 376/417 of IPC on March 3, 2011.
