A fantastic innings of unbeaten 123 runs by Smit Kumar Patel and a well potential innings of 90 runs from Yashpal Singh put Tripura in good position against Baroda today in the ongoing Ranji Trophy cricket tournament. At the end of day three Tripura made 327 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Baroda scored 521 runs in their first innings as thus still now Tripura is trailing by another huge 194 runs with just one day left in the match.
Now it will be a huge responsibility to the lower order batsmen of Tripura as they have to stay in support with Smit Patel so that Tripura can surpass Baroda’s score. Rajat Dey is giving good support to Smit as the former remained unbeaten on 20 runs. Once again in the match the duo of Smit Patel and Yashpal Singh gave Tripura the much needed oxygen as at one stage Tripura lost their top three batsmen for just 94 runs. Udiyan once again failed today.
In the morning today at Reliance cricket stadium in Vadodara, Tripura resumed their first innings from their overnight score of 63/1. Bishal Ghosh was batting well on 19 while Udiyan Bose was yet to open his account. But the duo did not last long as after playing a typical innings Udiyan Bose went out early. He scored just 6 from 60 balls. Bishal was looking good for a big score but he also perished on his individual score of 30 from 87 balls with 4 fours.
From 94/3 once again the duo of Smit Patel and Yashpal Singh started to fight back and batted very carefully. Both the players observed the condition for first couple of overs and then started to cut loose. Smit Patel soon brought up his half century from just 76 balls while soon Yashpal Singh also scored a well deserved half century. Both the batsmen was batting well and looking like this duo will remain unbeaten till the end of the match.
The duo added 181 runs for the fourth wicket but Yashpal Singh remained once again unlucky as he went out on his individual score of 90 from 200 balls with 14 fours. Smit Patel in the mean time completed his ton and at the end of day three remained unbeaten on 123 from 254 balls with 19 fours and 1 six. He has been well supported by Rajat Dey who remained unbeaten on 20 from 42 balls with 3 fours. At the end of day three Tripura made 327/4.
