The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mohila Morcha national president Vijaya Rahatkar addressing a press conference at BJP headquarter in Agartala Monday claimed that Tripura has the highest rate of crimes against women in the country and the Left front government has a tendency to shun the violence.
Vijaya Rahatkar on Monday expressed concern over the high crime rate and low conviction rate in the Marxist ruled state. She claimed, "Although there has been upward trend in crime, the state has topped in low conviction rate in the Northeastern states."
Rahatkar later claimed, "Though as per the report of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) Tripura stands at 14 but as per the population of the state of Tripura, the state stands at No 1."
Scoffing at the Left Front government, Rahatkar alleged, "Manik Sarkar led government has failed to deliver when it comes to welfare of women." "There is a total lawlessness and lacks in arrangement to deliver justice to the atrocities against women," she said.
However, Rahatkar, who is on a three-day visit to the poll bound state Mohila Morcha will play a key role in unseating the Left Front government in the coming Assembly elections as BJP’s women brigade has been focusing on organization expansion.
