The very first Sunday of this month, traditionally rich and reflective for traders as pre-Puja weekend recorded the highest footfall of crowd ever in the city this year, in the overloaded lanes, intact with shops and multi-storied malls.
Though the footfalls gradually recorded a flattering hike since last few days, most of the traders are found not in the mood of festivity unlike the preceding days.
Most of the trading organization having established huge multi-storied building to privately owned outlets, the collective approach towards this year’s market is found unsatisfactory.
“The markets are still not in the face as expected in such seasons. Usually the pick-time of Puja season starts almost a month before the Puja but this year the customer influx is not very attractive in the sense of trader” said Uttam Shill assistant store manager of “City-life”, a reputed mall in the city.
In the point of expectations, he however found unwilling to submit the depleting phase but hinted very much in the same ground. “There are no issues like expectations, there are nearly 8 to 9 days left and it could not cover the business volume of 30 to 40 business days” he concluded.
On the other hand the latest trend in “Big Bazar” is showing a satisfactory space. According to the store-manager, Arnab Banerjee, the business trends since last couple of days are showing upward move. Not only that, Mr. Banerjee said, the mall could do statistically 30% better in this season for their attractive collection adding an admission that the market was in a “fierce slump” as per records.
The newly inaugurated “Bazar India”, one of the densely franchised shopping mall in North and Central India is also going through the bad phase opined the mangers during the conversation with the newsman.
Meanwhile, the privately operated textile markets are also not happy in this way of business. Owner of “Adi Dhakeshwri Bastralay” of Sakuntala road being aggravated alleged that the newly contemplated mall culture is seriously affecting the business of traders like us and adding fuel to fire introduction of “Online-shopping” has distantly striking curved the hollow space of customers left for us. A few other such shop-owners of “Hawkers Corner” and HGB road advocated the same.
