Congress candidate for East Tripura constituency Pragya Debbarma today narrowly escaped an attack at Goltilla area of Tulasikhar under Champahour police station of Khowai.
According to sources, Pragya after addressing a public meeting was on her way to Tulasikhar. The armed personnel along her noticed a few yards ahead a group of young people carrying brickbats in hands were trying to aim the convoy of Pragya Debbarma.
Soon after that, the security personnel rushed to the spot and caught one of them. The Congress candidate managed to escape unhurt. The other members of the miscreant group fled away watching the security personnel moving towards them.
However, the accused—Pintu Kumar Debbarma was later handed over to the police of Champahour police station. Getting informed, TPCC president Pradyot Kishore Debbarman and also the younger brother of Pragya Debbarma along with other state leaders of the party rushed to the Khowai police station and lodged a written complaint against Prem Kumar and his associates.
Later on, addressing the press in front of the Khowai police station, Pradyot held Forest Minister and IPFT General Secretary Mevar Kumar Jamatia responsible for all this. He said, in order to restrain the Congress and the erosion in IPFT, ministers have started hiring miscreants. All those who were involved in the incident were drunk and I am sire were hired by none other than minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia.
Police has assured us that the all the miscreants were identified and would be behind the bars shortly, he added. In another incident, just after the arrest number of vehicles of Congress workers were smashed up by a frenzied mob.
According to the last information gathered till filling the report, 4 Congress workers sustained with severe injuries were admitted to Khowai district hospital where rest of the others were in primary health centers around the area.
