BSF burnt the paddy of two farmers at 5 kani land who cultivated paddy at their land out of barbed fencing. The incident created strong resentment among farmers at ward no -3 of Khowai Municipal Council.
Sources said that farmer Ful Mia, a dweller of ward no-3 of Uttar Durjay Nagar filed a written complain at Khowai Police Station stating that he has 2 kani land out of barbed fencing of Indo- Bangla Border and Girindra Debnath has 3 kani land at the same area. Ful Mia uses to cultivate paddy at the 5 Kani land and he produced ‘Paijam’ paddy at the land. He kept the ripe paddy after harvesting in between Gate no- 5 and 6 after bringing the paddy through Gate no -6. He had a plan to collect the paddy for house after separating paddy and to collect the dry straw as food of cattle.
He alleged that BSF jawans engaged in patrolling set fire on the paddy assuming that as dry straw to save themselves from cool weather of winter at 12 a.m. in last night. As a result all the paddy burnt there. He alleged that huge amount of paddy worth of Rs. 80,000 burnt at the spot.
Meanwhile police visited the spot in last night. On being informed fire fighters of Fire Service brought the fire under control at 3:30 p.m.
Visiting the area today our local correspondent added that strong resentment is prevailing among the local people of Uttar Durganagar against BSF after the incident.
Sources said that paddy is still burning at the area as nobody has permission of entry at the spot except BSF. Local people said that nobody had any attitude to destroy the paddies which were kept near barbed fencing. Now question raised whether BSF would reveal the fact who were in duty at the area in last night. Sources said that Khowai Police Station has not filed any case till today.
