Keeping parity with the country and other parts of the state, the National Press Day has been observed at Agartala on Thursday.
On the occasion, a seminar titled 'Challenges Before the Media' jointly organized by the ICA department and Agartala Press Club.
Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar inaugurated the seminar by lighting ceremonial lamp in presence of other dignitaries.
Secretary of ICA department M.L. Dey, Director Mrinal Kanti Nath, eminent lawyer Puroshottam Roy Barman, Dean of Tripura (Central) University Indranil Bhowmik and senior journalist Shekhar Datta attended the programme.
President of Agartala Press Club Satyabrata Chakraborty presided over the programme, Editor of Tripura Darpan Samiran Roy and Editor of Dainik Jagaran Paritosh Biswas were felicitated at the programme.
Addressing the seminar senior lawyer and Human Rights worker Puroshottam Roy Barman said, “Journalism is the best job in the world. Visibility of eye and audible capacity of ear are enhanced through journalism.” He further added that our present Prime Minister had not talked with journalists during last three years. He also alleged that the news of common people are not coming at Main Stream Media in present time.
Addressing seminar Senior Lawyer Shekhar Dutta appealed the journalists to achieve and carry on faith of people. Referring the presence of social media he said, “it has brought both benefit and loss for journalists. Meanwhile many journalists sacked from many media houses. As a result job of journalists became a hazardous job. He requested the concerned authority to think twice before providing ownership of media as many mafias and criminals have been entered in media.
Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar said, “Challenges are inevitable during the age of science and technology and journalists have to work within challenges. Referring the profession a voice of protest he said society exists due to media. He appealed the journalists to hold pen against injustice and advised the unions not to patronize government. Expressing his concern about some paid news he alerted that society will be perished if we fail to strengthen the world of media.
Meanwhile, the media personnel, to mark the National Press Day, formed a human chain at North Gate area in demand of CBI probe into young scribe Shantanu Bhowmik murder case.
