Movement against Citizenship Amendment Bill (MACAB), a joint platform of more than 17 political and apolitical organizations, today officially extended their support to the Congress candidates of the state.
Speaking at a media conference at Agartala Press Club, MACAB chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman said, the AICC has agreed with the demands of MACAB and thus the entire platform is now with the Congress. This conditional support may last till the ADC elections going to be held next year, he hinted by not ruling out the possibilities.
Speaking about the agreement, he said, in presence of AICC general secretary Luizino Falerio and AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi a MoU was signed between the MACAB and the Congress. The agreement ensures Roman Script for Kokborok along with its inclusion in the 8th Schedule of the constitution.
It also incorporates, he added, provisions for more autonomy and direct funding to the territorial councils in order to revive these institutions from present toothless conditions. It is also mentioned in the agreement that the government will jump into a legal battle challenging the Forest act 2006, he added.
While asked about IPFT, he did not rule out any possibility of being united before the election. “See the IPFT has also agreed with the BJP in some common minimum programme but now their facing hurdles with the agreement. If they chose another option for betterment of their community then I will always welcome them” he added saying that a good number of IPFT MLAS and leaders have morally supported MACAB movement.
Along with Pradyot, ATTF chief Ranjit Debbarma, Aghor Debbarma, Animesh Debbarma and members of the TSF also remained present.
