Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath today condemned the neglecting behavior of lawyers in terms of their performances involved in government practices during the 2nd state level conference of state BJP law and legal cell department.
“we have a panel of 19 lawyers, designated as senior advocates in the higher order of the judiciary but it is really a matter to be regret on that 16 of them failed to submit their performance report. Such sort of negligence is really a question upon the accountability of learned lawyers of the state” he added.
Pitching hard on the government advocates posted in various courts, he said, the government pays a sum 78 lakh per month to honor as much as 132 government advocates— GA(Government advocates), AGA( Assistant Government Advocates), PP(Public Prosecutors), APP(Assistant Public Prosecutors) and In-charges of lowers courts along with other legal professionals.
And since it is public money that allows the lawyers to draw their livelihood, the lawyers also should have to be held accountable for their performance to the public like the legislators, he pointed out directing that all the government lawyers to submit their periodical reports in an interval of three months.
However, he also expressed satisfaction over the performances of government advocates in recent times. “There is no inch of doubt that the government advocates have succeeded to uplift the conviction graph in comparison to the Left regime. The conviction rate in this short period (April to November) is 86%; the bail rejection rate is also improved to 61%, NDPS cases the rate goes up with 55% and so on. And we all have to try that the graph reach 100% soon” he concluded.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also later opined that if the state becomes free from crime the investments, tourism and financial step ups will find a new height. However, Advocate General Arun Kanti Bhowmik and all the Lawyer legislators of the state except Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman attended the function.
