Journalist shot dead: Congress calls for 24 hours strike on Thursday

Raising voice against the cold blooded murder of the senior Crime reporter of a vernacular Daily, the Tripura Pradesh Congress on Wednesday on a press meet have called for a 24 hours long strike to be observed on Thursday.

Addressing the press meet the Congress leaders of Wednesday strongly criticized the death of the senior Journalist in the state and demanding proper investigation Congress called for 24 hours strike.

On the other hand, BJP has also called for strike on the same day for 12 hours.

Senior journalist Sudip Datta Bhowmik was shot dead yesterday near Tripura's capital Agartala, allegedly by paramilitary force personnel.

Sudip Datta Bhowmik, 50, was a crime reporter for the popular Bengali daily Syandan Patrika. The accused soldier, Nandu Reang, who was with Tripura State Rifles, a paramilitary force engaged in counter-insurgency operations, has been arrested.

The shooting took place this afternoon inside the headquarters of 2nd battalion of TSR at RK Nagar, around 30 km from state capital Agartala.
