Govt. to opt 3-tier module for fish sufficiency: NC

AGARTALA:

In a bid to establish equality between production and consumption of fish in the state, government is planning to undertake a 3-tier system including representatives from fish producers, fish sellers and the government which will monitor the process, said Fisheries Minister NC Debbarma today.

We will constitute a committee taking people from all of these sectors to monitor the problems of fishery industry, he added. Addressing the oath taking ceremony of the newly constituted fish market association, he further said, there is a good number of fishery co-operative societies in the rural parts of the state but the fact of the matter is that most of them contribute nothing in the production.

Now, the Minister Said, we have taken an initiative to start fish raring in the government own water bodies such as lakes inducted in TSR headquarters, forest department and other such line departments. If we can implement the whole project as targeted, in the long run, state will be exporting fish to other parts of the North eastern states.

In response to the 3 point chartered of demands—construction of a new multi-storied complex for the market, scientific drainage system and elongated parking slot, submitted to him, he said, all the demands that are submitted here are significant, the government is willing to address such demands at the earliest.

Meanwhile, a new 37 member committee of fish sellers took oath on the occasion. Speaker Rebati Mohan Das administered the oath taking ceremony. MLA Asish Kumar Saha also attended the programme. Prantosh Das assumed charge as the new president of the association.
