Leaders of Tripura Upajati Ganamukti Parishad today condemned the “Ghar Wapsi” drives, being carried out by the activists of Hindu Jagaran Mancha, describing such practices as against the fundamental rights.
President of the outfit, MP Jitendra Chowdhury alleged, “If religious beliefs get imposed upon people taking advantage of their social backwardness or at the point of threat, it is a sheer violation of the fundamental rights”.
The incident of Mundapara, Kailashar where 23 families were converted to Hinduism from Christianity bears a message that Tripura is also heading in the line of states like Uttarpradesh where communal violence is fueled in the name of protecting Hinduism, the seasoned leader added while addressing a press conference at CPIM state head quarters.
He also went on alleging, all the underprivileged families were followers of Christianity since the time of their forefathers. They chosen the path of Christianity by their own wish but intolerance of the newly emerged Hindu activists could not let them continue their religious practice in the name of protecting Hinduism.
There are reports, he claimed, that all of them were under scanner of the Hindu Jagaran Mancha, an activist wing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Even they were also threatened of being sacked of their respective works and after tolerating a lot the families surrendered to Hinduism, feared of the dire consequences, he added.
He also demanded a high-level administrative inquiry followed by strict actions against the guilty persons. On the other hand, General Secretary of GMP Radhacharan Debbarma announced the yearlong activities of the organizarion. In demand of the 9 point chartered demands the party will start its activities from January 27 next.
