Export and import business was stalled at Srimantapur Land Custom Station from Thursday to today due to poor condition of road from zero point of Indo –Bangla Border to BSF camp at Sonamura.
The villagers requested the officers of Srimantapur Land Custom Station to suspend export and import business as long as the road remains out of order. Export – import business stopped through the LCS after the appeal of the villagers. Since that day no loaded truck is coming from Bibir Bazar Border of Bangladesh.
It is learnt that the business will not resume for next few more days. Meanwhile, big potholes created at different places of the one km long road. Both sides of the road are a densely populated area.
Sources said that large number of people raised objection on export and import business on this damaged road.
Local people alleged that negligence in repair and maintenance of the road at proper time was responsible for unexpected suspension of export – import business. According to sources PWD and TIDC started to throw responsibility of construction upon each other.
Besides, officials of PWD said that TIDC would repair the road. But it is not clear when the department would start the work. Central Customs officer said that he would talk with officers of PWD and TIDC.
