KARIMGANJ /AGARTALA:

At last elephant has to be brought on National Highway to push forward the submerged vehicle on muddy road which passes from Karimganj to Ratabari via Hilakandi.

Earlier elephant was utilized to help the vehicles –small and big cars- move from muddy road at Assam Agartala National Highway before two years. The news was published in the national media. Similar scene came into reality at another National Highway which went up to Silchar.

Meanwhile, PWD minister of Assam Parimal Sukla Baidya claimed in front of media that 80 percent road of Barak Valley became well equipped for transportation of vehicles. But elephant was brought on the road to rescue vehicles within one week of the statement by the PWD minister. Such a poor condition of National Highway is not expectable when people of the country are busy with the dream of Digital India.

The condition of National Highway became unfit for any movement in between Assam and Tripura also before two years. The road was closed for months. As result Tripura suffered from crisis of food. Chief Minister Tripura Manik Sarkar and Governor of Tripura Tathagata Roy informed centre about the condition of NH-44. At last construction of the road started in war footing by the instruction of Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. But the quality of work reveals that the road could go out of order within 4 to 5 months.
