After getting assurance by the Chief Minister, the joint action committee of IMA Tripura chapter and All Tripura Government Doctors’ Association today called off their on-going agitation protesting assault on an on-duty medical officer. The step also bring in a sense of relief among the common people as the private practice of doctors and other allied medical institution remained suspended of operation from last Thursday as part of the protests.
“Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb last night met a six-member team of joint action committee of IMA and ATGDA. He had agreed to all the demands placed by the team. As a result, we are withdrawing our protest for the sake of general people of the state”, ATGDA General Secretary Rajesh Chowdhury told the media today.
“The Tripura High Court for the first time heard the petition filed by the state government which ended up staying the bails of all the arrestees. The health minister of the state surrendered his security in order to make strong statement. Thus, we feel we should also withdraw our protest to bring ease in the life of patients” Dr. Chowdhury continued.
He also requested the Health Minister to take back his security arrangements as their fraternity is equally concerned over Health Minister’s security issues. “All the steps taken by the government prove the government is very much considerate towards the entire medical fraternity. In the same way, we also want to convey the message to the government that the security arrangements of the Health Minister ought to be reinstated, as he also participated in our agitation in his own capacity” Dr. Chowdhury added.
Taking over from him Executive Member of the ATGDA, Dr. Kanak Chowdhury said, we have forwarded a demand draft that includes—complete CCTV surveillance in all the hospitals, Police patrolling in all the departments of the hospital and FIR copies registered against the miscreants. The Chief Minister hearing our words for hours assured us of all. Already, the police pickets have been instated in the hospital complexes of TMC and AGMC, he added.
Asked on the Arjun Debnath incident took place at Srinagar, he said, the Chief Minister had also guaranteed that he would be axed from the political party which he belongs and soon would be booked under criminal charges. Among the others, important members of ATGDA and IMA Tripura chapter remained present during the press conference.
