Diptanu Ghosh, a 16 years old young senior league cricketer has been advised by his parents to stay away from the cricket crease. It is not that his parents are not intended to promote his growing interest towards cricket but they are not happy enough with the ground where he uses to take training sessions.
Few weeks ago, Dipatanu sustained injuries while resisting a front-foot squire-drive in reaching the boundaries at the Jolabari school ground, the biggest and lone destination of the area for professional players. The wound was deep and the blood was coming out profusely. Getting informed his father rushed to the ground where he found, it was a deep cut caused by broken pieces wine-bottles. He was taken to the doctors immediately and got treated consequently.
However, it was not the first instance. Every now and then, players—more frequently the cricketers get injured in course of their game which in turn gradually setting off a sense of disinterest among the players. Accordingly, the number of players had also fallen down in manifold.
Months ago, during a “Swacch Bharat” drive at the same ground an RSS Sayangsevak had also faced a similar mishap. RSS activist Mithun Saha while pulling over the dirt filled bins lost his balance and fell down on broken glass pieces. He had also received minor injuries in his leg and upper portion of the body.
“The matter is that no one is interested to take the responsibility and do some good for the ground. With every sunset, huge number people having planned to get drunk amass in the field-galleries with enough stock of wine. As, there is no proper lighting arrangements it gives boost to the wills of bacchanalians. Till late in the night the school field is being used as a space of recreation for the alcoholics. And, what appears in the morning? The entire field transforms into a dumping ground of plastic carry bags, emptied wine-bottles, wads of puffed filters and other waste materials” said one Hradhan Sutradhar, a veteran local.
The sixty year old field, he continued, never faced such a dilapidated situation. First of all, there is neither any space to keep the filth nor a system to make it clean. During the recess students come down to their classes and find empty wine bottles in scattered here and there. Doesn’t it wield negative influence on the children?, he asked.
Meanwhile, the locals have knocked doors of many authorities but all went in vain. They are also aggravated over the police authorities. All the inhabitants of the adjacent areas are demanding frequent police patrolling and proper lighting arrangements in order to put a stop on such activities.
