Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee is likely to declare its candidate list for the upcoming parliamentary elections tomorrow, according to party sources.
The names of the contestants will be released from the party head quarters—New Delhi after being cleared by the party parliamentary board, the source informed this.
“Already, the party screening committee has cleared the proposed names for Mizoram and Manipur yesterday and for Tripura the final seal will be given tonight. State president Pradyot Kishore Devbarman is also attending the meeting”, the source maintained.
In the meantime, with Pradesh Congress chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarman already announcing his target of fielding candidates in both the seats, party insiders claimed, “We are working in that direction and the party will ensure that campaigns begin early. Congress will not draw a blank this time”.
Currently, the Left Front has both the seats. “People will soon come back to reality giving a second thought. However, Left Front will lose the existing two seats”, the Pradesh Congress insiders maintained. Apart from Congress, ruling BJP is also to announce its candidate-list by Monday next. BJP, which contested the 2018 Assembly polls along with IPFT, formed the government unseating the Left Front that had ruled the state for five consecutive terms since 1993.
But, the IPFT threatened to snap ties with the BJP last week after differences cropped up over the seat-sharing. However, a crucial meeting is being held tonight to ink the seat-adjustment. CPIM, on the other hand, has already declared a list of 2 candidates. Notably, state would have two-phase elections this year. Polls would be held on April 11 and April 18 next.
