Tripura Under 23 cricket team today created history as they registered their third win on the trot in the ongoing Col C K Nayudu trophy under 23 cricket tournament. This is for the first time ever Tripura under 23 team achieved the feat in national level cricket as they remained at the top slot in the points table with 18 points. Today Tripura defeated Goa by 25 runs and thus kept their hopes alive to move forward in the main stage of the tournament. For this Tripura have to gather at least 3 points against Rajasthan.
After their defeat against Saurashtra in the opening match, Tripura Under 23 team never looked back and defeated Assam and Jammu and Kashmir in respective matches. All the players contributed well in those matches while among them the main architect was Tapas Mandal. Today also Tapas Mandal and Viky Saha demolished the batting line up of Goa with 9 wickets between them. Tapas Mandal in the match picked up 9 wickets and till now he got 23 wickets from the four matches and played a very crucial role.
Chasing 232 runs to win today host Goa bundled out for 206 runs. At one stage they have lost 9 wickets for just 164 and the last wicket pair threatened Tripura with 42 runs partnership. But Viky Saha and Tapas Mandal assured that Tripura will win the match in any cost and in the end they proved it. Viky Saha picked up 5 wickets for just 69 while Tapas Mandal picked up 4 wickets. Ex cricketers, cricket lovers and other sporting personalities congratulated Tripura for this rare success. Tripura to play against Rajasthan from November 11-14.
Goa started their second innings from the overnight score of 78/3 but they lost wickets at regular intervals. Samar Dubhashi made 59, Suyash S Prabhudessai made 40 while V G Kahlon remained unbeaten on 32. From 79.5 overs Goa bundled out for 206 runs falling 26 runs short from the target. Among the Tripura bowlers Viky Saha picked up 5 wickets while Tapas Mandal picked up 4 wickets. Tripura in the end won the match by 25 runs and remained at the top.
