As a part of the country wide protest call given by the All India Chakma Students’ Union (AICSU) on racial discrimination against the Chakmas of Mizoram by the Mizoram Government, simultaneous protests are being held at Agartala on Thursday by the Chakma National Council of India (Tripura State Committee) to protest the discrimination done by the Mizoram Government to the Chakma students.
Today the Chakma National Council of India (Tripura State Committee) slammed the Mizoram government for its racial profiling and step motherly treatment of Chakmas in Mizoram.
The members held protest at Agartala against denial of medical seats to four Chakma students of Mizoram, who are Scheduled Tribes like the Mizos but have been denied the seats despite holding higher ranks as per the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET)-2017 results as the Mizoram government illegally decided to reserve all the medical seats only for the “ethnic Zos” i.e. Mizos.
The four – Darshan Chakma, Nibir Chakma, Mini Chakma and Nibhir Tongchangya – were among 38 students selected to study MBBS and bachelor of dental surgery (BDS) under Mizoram quota through National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET). But they were denied seats under Racial Discrimination.
