Construction of Kailashahar Land Custom Station at Kailashahar – Bangladesh Border suspended during last one year after laying foundation stone of the station before 18 months.
Import and export business of the subdivision could hike easily if the land custom station started functioning.
The then Industry and Commerce minister of state Tapan Chakraborty laid the foundation stone of the LCS on January 26 in 2017. Construction agency IL& FS got the contract of construction.
An amount of Rs. 20 crore allotted for the construction according to the project report. The share of the State Government is 20 percent. Central Government sanctioned Rs. 3 crore 20 lakh at the first phase and state sanctioned Rs. 66 lakh at same phase.
Large quantity of stone chips stored at the construction site and shed house for labourer was constructed at the beginning. But the construction stopped due to objection of Bangladesh after few days. There was a proposal to shift barbed fencing at zero line of Indo-Bangla Border. Meanwhile construction of Chatalpur Land Custom Station completed inside Bangladesh. The Land Custom Station could be beneficial for bilateral trade with Bangladesh.
There is provision of dumping ground for storing goods from Bangladesh, weighing bridge, rest house, toilet and other facilities in the LCS. So the traders of Kailashahar are very mush willing to finish the construction at the earliest.
