A week long training program on ‘Value Addition - Bamboo Technologies’ was inaugurated at Forest Research Centre for Livelihood Extension (FRC-LE), Salbagan Forest Campus, Agartala.
25 young aspiring entrepreneurs including 13 women from Tripura, Assam and students from Tripura University have joined the training for ‘Skill Development on Bamboo Handicrafts for Promotion of Community Enterprise’.
Eminent and well experienced master trainers from Tripura will be imparting training to them. Modern utility items like key-chain, jewellery- ear ring, hair pin, hanger, pen-stand, basketry, flower vase, lamp set, bamboo made beds (cots) are expected to be made during the one week training and the focus will be more on to replace single-use plastic products by developing eco-friendly items using suitable bamboo species.
The products made from the training will be showcased in an exhibition planned during valedictory session. Awards were also announced for best trainee artisan, best trainer, group-wise best display, best innovative idea and design, best group with maximum number of quality products based on the assessment during the valedictory session.
The training program was inaugurated by Shri Prasad Rao IFS, MD, TRPC. He encouraged the trainees to develop innovative ideas, creative design and to incorporate them into useful products.
In the welcome address Shri Pawan K Kaushik, Head of FRC-LE highlighted on the utility of bamboo for replacing one-time plastic made products. In his address he emphasized more on the importance of practising for developing efficiency and on selecting the right bamboo species for particular product.
The training is a part of ‘Value Addition - Bamboo Technologies’ a BTSG-ICFRE program supported and funded by National Bamboo Mission.
