Assam-Agartala highway shutdown in support of NE bandh by NESO

AGARTALA:

At a time when the communist backed CITU and INTUC in Tripura is observing their All India general strike against the so called anti-people policies of the Modi government at the centre from Tuesday, the Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF) of Tripura and other tribal organisation has shut down the Assam-Agartala national highway since Tuesday morning paralysing the traffic movement in support of North East Bandh called by the North East Students’ Organization (NESO), an umbrella body of eight student groups from different northeast states in protest against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Amidst adequate security arrangements by police and paramilitary forces at Jirania Madhab Bari today, the agitators burnt tyres to show their protest. The agitators condemned the bill and lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing that it would be soon passed in the Parliament.

In protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the entire Northeast is observing an 11-hour bandh on Tuesday from 5 am to 4 pm.

The NESO called for the bandh across seven northeastern states, which is being supported by the AGP, the Congress and 30 other ethnic organisations from Assam.
