A tourist team of 38 Non Resident Indians visited Unakoti today as a part of visiting the state under ‘Know India Programme’. Giving this information Officer of OIA under Ministry of Foreign Affairs S.K. Nayek said, the team of NRI includes 40 tourists and 38 out of them came to visit Unakoti.
The visiting tourists are representing countries like Fiji, Guyana, Mauritius, Myanmar, South Africa, Surinam, Trinidad and Tobago.
He said, all the NRIs of the team under the age group from 18 to 30 years including students and different professionals. All of them are 5th and 6th generation of Non Resident Indian citizen living abroad. The purpose of this tour is to link up themselves with their motherland and to take initiative to communicate the sectors like education, industry, information technology of their country with these sectors of India on being aware about the sectors.
The Government of India introduced Know India Programme in 2008. The present batch of tourist team from 7 countries is the 52nd batch of NRI.
Earlier 1752 foreign tourists visited India under this programme. The Government of India is bearing all expenses of this tour including fooding and lodging. Different countries prepare their list of tourists by inviting application of tourist from Indian Embassy.
